April~Painted Paragraphs

4.18.18 White Overtone Dog

This little book resonates with my bookmaking spree over the past month . . . Painted Paragraphs by Donald Newlove, pages 22 – 23. Have been enjoying the making of books, with ideas flowing for making books for women to write their birth stories in, love letters to self, and other such curiously creative spaces to be with::that are for me to make and giveaway, be found . . . I make, I create, am interested in the sharing of creation, even as sale, but this last bit is a mystery to me, find give aways come easy and natural, so maybe that’s what my creativity is for::to give of myself? Started work on one for Mum for her birthday a few days ago and today painted in some details. It’s a book of medicine, with symbols of what I perceive she loves dearly::Allah and the full circle of names, knitting, wool, luxurious places and drawing rooms, books, persian and other eastern illustrated books, nice cutlery and furniture, knick knacks, flowers, and saris; the medicine is in the honeypots, the butterfly, the deer bounding between bars, the cracked eggs and empty nest, the head with clock and both lock and key to open, look listen, enter into the starfish shores of timeless waves where answers ripple back . . .

“Okay – so things are a bit tough right now – however know that things will regenerate into something much stronger and far more abundant. Focus on gratitude and the positive outcomes to bring them to you sooner”.
-Starfish

“Starfish is reminding you that although you see things as black and white there is also a middle road of many shades of gray. Know that what you perceive as right or wrong may also fall into these categories and that you must discern where you must give and where you must take. Fighting for the whole shebang will not serve you or anyone else. Compromise will ease the conflict and resolve any dispute.

Alternatively creature may be letting you know that you have to start using some of your higher senses in the situation you find yourself in. Let go of sight and sound and you will be able to feel what is right. The heart will always know the appropriate action”.

“Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”
“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.
To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”
Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”
At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said,
“It made a difference for that one.”
